When Gautam felt that there was bound to be a conflict between the Sakyas and the Koliya, he suggested a way to the Marg Sangha that you choose two people from the Koliya and two people from the Sakyas and all four of them have to choose a fifth person and these five people sit together.
Everyone agreed to resolve this conflict but then the commander expressed his opposition and said that until we take strict action against the Kolios, they will not improve. When Gautam put his point before the people, most of the people agreed.
When it was not accepted by the government, then the commander put forward his proposal, then Gautam stood in front of that proposal and said that Koliya and Shakya are closely related and it is not good for anyone to destroy their own, then the commander said that the Kshatriya people should destroy their own people. For the sake of the nation, one fights even with one's own brother.
